Students and Dean pose for a picture with Svlvia, Ron, and Brent along with the $2,000 check raised by AARP Dulles

On November 5, 2007, at the GMU, Dean of the College of Health and Human Services' office, a check for two thousand dollars to be used for two one thousand dollar scholarship grants to GMU Geriatric Nurse Practitioner students, Patty and Pam, was presented. We had a chance to chat with Dean Travis, who is a gerontologist by training, and the two deserving women who received the chapter's grant money. Both women have families while going to school full time. They demonstrated a great passion for the field they are entering. Not pictured, but also present was Mary-Earle Farrell, who had come to our September meeting to thank the group for our generosity. Mary-Earle indicated that our monies have a good chance of being leveraged. That is, she has potential benefactors with matching funds.  Wouldn't it be great to find out that our two thousand really created two or four thousand more dollars for scholarship grants?

The funds raised by our chapter came from the donation of merchandise and time and hard work from many chapter members at the annual yard sales.

Special thanks go out to our Chairpersons, Mary Jackson, Sylvia St. Jean and Pat Rhoads who opened up her home and yard for the sales.
Everybody stick out your collective chests for a job well done!
